CAF Confederation Cup: Kwara United confront Ashante Kotoko, Kaizer Chiefs vs Kabuscorp

Nigeria and Ghana will renew their storied football rivalry when Asante Kotoko take on reigning Nigerian President Federation Cup champions Kwara United in the First Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

According to the sketch in Tanzania, the Ghanaian heavyweights will host the first leg before travelling to Ilorin for the return fixture.

The aggregate winners will progress to confront Moroccan top-flight side Wydad AC in the second round.

 Senegal’s Generation Foot will confront Cote d’Ivoire’s Amadou Diallo FC, with the winners earning a showdown against former CAF Confederation Cup champions USM Alger.

 In another intriguing tie, Guinea’s Hafia FC take on Algeria’s CR Belouizdad, while Burkina Faso’s USFA host Nigeria’s Abia Warriors, with Mali’s Djoliba AC awaiting in the Second Preliminary Round.

Zambia’s Zesco United will clash with Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers for a potential meeting with Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy, while DR Congo’s second representative takes on Angola’s Kabuscorp de Palanca for the right to confront South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.

Elsewhere, Tanzania’s Azam FC will need to overcome Zanzibar’s KMKM SC and South Sudan’s El Merriekh Bentiu to reach the next stage, while Uganda’s NEC FC confront Sudan’s Al Ahli Madani, with Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive du Sahel awaiting the winners.

Six of Africa’s highest-ranked clubs namely: Wydad AC (Morocco), USM Alger and CR Belouizdad (Algeria), Zamalek SC and Al Masry SC (Egypt), and Stellenbosch FC (South Africa) received byes into the Second Preliminary Round, thanks to their strong positions in the CAF Club Rankings.

The quest for glory begins with the Preliminary Round, played over two legs on the weekends of September 19th-21st and September 26th-28th.

Winners will progress to the Second Preliminary Round, scheduled for October 17th-19th, with return legs from October 24th-26th.

Successful teams will secure their spots in the Group Stage, which kicks off on November 21st.

From there, the best will battle through to the knockout phase, starting on March 13th 2026, all aiming to lift African football’s most prestigious club trophy.
